before when I would create a shape tween, it was doing a stupid thing where it would draw extra lines between the lines that moved. It was ridiculously annoying, because I had no idea how to fix it. Then I discovered that you MUST only move one thing. To make that work, I found that I needed to place each limb on a different layer! It now works, and the stickman animates properly :)
After animating each limb moving individually, I created a motion tween and slid him across the screen. I then duplicated this thing, moved it to the end, and reversed the frames, so that he moves backwards and begins again.
